Demre, Myra, Kekova, St. Nicholas Church, Sunken City Tour

Tour Overview

Our journey begins early in the morning, traveling via the Kemer route toward Demre (Myra). Along the way, short breaks are taken so guests can arrive refreshed and ready to explore the world-famous Lycian rock tombs.
After visiting Myra Ancient City, we continue to the St. Nicholas Church, where Saint Nicholas—known worldwide as Santa Claus—served as bishop. Following the visit, lunch is served and a short rest break is given.
The tour then continues to Andriake Harbor, where we board a boat. By sea, we explore ancient Simena (Kaleköy) and the Sunken City of Kekova. During the boat tour, submerged ancient structures, houses, and tombs can be clearly seen beneath the crystal-clear waters. After the enjoyable cruise, we return to the hotels in the evening.
Rock tombs, Lycian inscriptions, and coins indicate that Myra has existed since at least the 5th century BC. According to ancient sources, Myra was one of the six major cities of the Lycian League and was known as “Myrrh” in Lycian inscriptions. In the early Christian period, Myra served as the metropolis of Lycia. Saint Paul changed ships at the Port of Myra in AD 60 on his journey to Rome, and Saint Nicholas served as bishop here in the 4th century. During the reign of Theodosius II, Myra was the capital of Lycia.
Kekova (known as Dolichiste in the Lycian language) is a small, rocky island located near Kaleköy and Üçağız, close to the town of Demre. Over time, parts of the ancient settlement were submerged due to earthquakes, forming the famous Sunken City. These underwater ruins can be clearly observed during the boat tour, and depending on weather and sea conditions, a swimming break may also be offered.
